Cuatro Tetas

The art of basketwork is a cultural practice that belongs to the Canaan community located in Guapi, the Cauca region of Colombia. This region possesses a great diversity of flora and fauna and many rivers, lakes, and streams.
The Ethnic group is inspired by nature, and their continued motivation is to preserve nature’s wealth of the territory. Basketwork is a crucial moment in the life of these communities, and their tradition is to teach younger generations the art of their work, starting when they are five years old.
The beautiful baskets reflect nature, plants, animals, and mythology creatures represented in the wave work. Some of these techniques are handed down from generation to generation.
The bright colors of some of the items from this collection come from a natural process. The artisans use wild fruits, plants, and tree shells to extract natural dyes.
